NYC Metro Course Guides

Brooklyn has two full municipal courses and two very different personalities: Dyker Beach, the social classic under the bridge side of Bay Ridge, and Marine Park, the long open test on Jamaica Bay. A Downtown golfer can reach both in about 40 minutes.

**Our take:** Dyker Beach for the classic parkland day and the neighborhood after. Marine Park for the better test of long golf when the bay wind is up.

## Dyker Beach

About 6,400 yards, par 72, Bendelow bones with a van Kleek rebuild, groomed and treelined, with recent published rates roughly $26 to $66 by time and residency. The closest city course to Lower Manhattan as the crow flies, and the post round move is Bay Ridge's restaurant row on Third Avenue.

## Marine Park

The longest of the city courses at about 6,800 yards, open and exposed on the bay, with a Robert Trent Jones Sr. pedigree in its design history. When the wind blows it is the hardest course in the city system relative to its card. Flat, walkable, and underplayed by Manhattan golfers who stop at Dyker.

## The Brooklyn day

Morning at Dyker, or 27 across both if you are ambitious and the tee sheets allow, is too much driving between courses to be sensible. Pick one. Brooklyn golfers with a car alternate them by wind and mood, which is the correct local answer.

## Transit notes

Dyker is the R train plus the B1 bus. Marine Park is a car course in practice, with bus connections from Flatbush for the determined. Both price like the munis they are, and the value guide counts them among the city's best windows at twilight.
