NYC Metro Rankings

The Best Public Golf Within 90 Minutes of Downtown Manhattan

Our anchor point is Downtown Manhattan, the Financial District around Wall Street. Times are approximate off peak drive times or standard transit times from there. Add 15 to 30 minutes at rush hour and on summer Saturdays. At 90 minutes the whole Bethpage complex, the Nassau County courses, and the best of New Jersey and Westchester public golf come into range. This is the full day ranking.

Our take: Bethpage Black and Red take the top two spots. The best New Jersey day trip in this window is Rock Spring, and the best Westchester option is Mohansic.

The top tier

1. Bethpage Black, 60 to 75 min. 2. Bethpage Red, same trip. 3. Harbor Links, Port Washington, about 45 to 55 min. 4. Eisenhower Red, East Meadow, about 50 min. 5. Rock Spring, West Orange NJ, about 50 min.

The second tier

6. Mohansic, Yorktown Heights, about 70 min, a hilly Devereaux Emmet county course. 7. Sunken Meadow, Kings Park, about 70 min. 8. Ballyowen, Hamburg NJ, about 80 min, the best of the Crystal Springs resort courses. 9. Oyster Bay, about 60 min. 10. Mansion Ridge, Monroe NY, a Nicklaus daily fee about 75 min out.

How to choose inside this list

One great course and an easy drive beats two courses and a traffic gamble. From Downtown, Bethpage is the default answer on golf quality. Rock Spring is the answer when you want architecture without the Bethpage booking fight. Harbor Links is the answer when you want a private club feel at a public price.

FAQ

Is Bethpage worth the booking effort?

Yes for the Black once a season, and the Red any time. Residents book 7 days out at 7 PM in the state system, non residents get a shorter window.

How much for a full day at Bethpage?

Resident Black rate $70 to $80 plus the $5 booking fee and LIRR or gas. Under $120 all in for a resident, the best value in championship golf in America. Prices in this guide were checked in October 2026 against published course listings and recent reporting. Greens fees move by season, day, and residency, so confirm the exact rate when you book. Private clubs do not publish initiation fees or dues. Every private figure here is an estimate band based on public reporting, labeled as an estimate, and the only accurate number comes from a club's membership office.
